The Bali question I'm asked more than any other — "Ubud or Seminyak or Uluwatu?" — has a real answer, and it's about traveler type rather than objective ranking.

Ubud, in the island's interior, is jungle, rice terraces, river valleys, temples, and wellness culture. No beach. It suits honeymooners wanting seclusion, wellness travelers, and anyone for whom Bali means green rather than blue. Uluwatu and the Bukit peninsula, on the southern clifftops, is dramatic ocean views, surf breaks, and the island's most architecturally spectacular resorts — but beaches are at the bottom of cliffs and the vibe is remote-glamorous rather than walkable. Seminyak and neighboring Canggu are the beach-club, restaurant, and nightlife belt — the choice for travelers who want to walk out of the resort into the scene. Jimbaran and Nusa Dua, between the airport and the Bukit, offer the island's calmest swimmable beaches and its most classically resort-shaped resorts — the family and first-timer zone.

The itinerary I build most often splits the stay: three or four nights in Ubud, then three or four on a coast. Bali rewards the two-property trip, and coordinating it is exactly the kind of thing an advisor handles.
